Summit of Snowdon, December 2007

Wild Wales!

Congratulations to the "Pie and Eccles Gang" from down south (!) who battled the wild weather to gain the summit of Snowdon and earned the prize of having the summit to themselves as the wind whistled through the summit fencing. Plenty of hailshowers and December light gave the day a wintery feel! Well done to Howard, Graham, Martin, Philip, Geoff and Alan.

12th November , Snowdon Guidebook Competition Winner

Congratulations to Les Jones from Walsall, who wins a copy of the "Complete guide to Snowdon" from Seren Books. We asked what was the name of the new Snowdon summit building and it is of course - "Hafod Eryri" which means Snowdonia summer house or dwelling.

Even better news we are running the competition again for November, so check out the new competition page here here and get emailing. Best of luck.

Closing Date Friday 7th December.

Tiryfan - 3rd November

Congratulations to the firemen of Rota Group 4 of the London Fire Brigade, who dealt with the wet and misty conditions to gain the summit of Tryfan by the classic North ridge on Saturday. Well done to Andrew, the 3 Steves!, Patrick, Ross, Chris, Paul and Will. We just hope the fireworks went off ok on Anglesey that night!

No Walking on Snowdon?

Monday 17th September saw us out on a quiet midweek Snowdon. As we were descending we came across this sign near the summit, which luckily or unluckily we'd missed on the way up. This sign could come as a shock to the many walkers attempting to climb to the summit of Wales' highest mountain! In the meantime congratulations to Dave and David on making the summit.

August Bank Holiday - Welsh 3000s and dry weather, nearly!

Crossing Crib Goch on Day 1 of the Welsh 3000sAfter our last weather harassed attempt on the Welsh 3000's we're pleased to say a great 3 days of mountainwalking was had over the bank holiday break. Day 1 saw a beautiful cloud inversion as we climbed up and across Crib Goch. We were later treated to the wonderful sight of brocken spectres further along on Crib Y Dysgyl before summiting on Snowdon. Day 2 saw some cloud hanging around the tops until we reached Glyder Fawr, where they cleared. A tricky descent from the glyderau brought us up onto Tryfan in the early evening, for some great views back across where we'd been. It was too good to last and sure enough, mother nature threw some good old rain and wind our way on the final day, but it wasn't enough to stop our challengers cross the Carneddau and the last 7 peaks! Congratulations to Catherine, Demetrius and Amanda on completing all 15 summits over 3000 feet. Pamela, the carneddau will still be here when you return!

20th - 22nd July, 2007 - Wild Welsh 3000's

With extreme weather wreaking havoc across the country, our Welsh 3000s trip had a wild flavour to it. Congratulations to Margaret, Deirdre, Elinor and Simon in overcoming some challenging Snowdonia mountain weather to complete 10 of the 15 Welsh 3000's. We've managed to turn everyone into river crossing experts now! Beware the pole snapping bogs in the Glyderau!

Ben Nevis, Seren Ventures

16th June, 2007 - Ben Nevis, Scotland

Congratulations to Christina, Saskia and Lakshmi upon summiting "the Ben" as it's affectionately known, on Saturday. The weather threatened gale force winds, which thankfully didn't appear. As you can see though there was the odd drop of rain about, as Gary took this summit shot. You can make out some of the old observatory ruins in the background. Well done everyone.

Crib Goch on the Snowdon Horseshoe9th June, 2007 - Snowdon Horseshoe

Saturday saw near perfect conditions for our ascent of the Snowdon Horseshoe. A little bit more wind would have been welcomed, but this didn't stop Paul and Jonathan completing the full circuit of this challenging route. Crib Goch, proved it's usual challenge and focussed minds, before ascending Carnedd Ugain. A short loop round brough us on to Snowdon, where the new summit building is taking shape.

We were greeted on the summit of Y Lliwedd, the final summit by a man in shirt and tie who had just been climbing Paradise route! Drinks at the Pen-Y-Gwyryd hotel were well deserved and welcomed! Well done guys.

Route Navigation in Snowdonia

15th April

Snowdonia has been basking in sunshine for the last few weeks now. Our first Complete Mountain Walking Course of the year had a great week, with waterproofs feeling redundant in the rucksack and a magnificent cloud inversion where the cloud sat in the valleys like cotton wool.

10th April The Channel Islands comes to Snowdon

Today we welcomed the Channel Islands and in particular Guernsey to Snowdon as Paul and James joined us on one of our Snowdon walks. We made good progress to the summit, just in time to catch Britain's highest driller as he attempted to secure the workers construction huts to the rock. The old summit cafe is now gone and work has begun on the new summit building, which should be completed in Summer 2008. We made good progress back down the miners track to Pen-Y-Pass and refreshments! Well done to Paul, James and Brett on the day.

Identifying features on a Seren Ventures navigation course11th February - Beginners Navigation Course

15th December, 2006 - New Snowdon summit building named

The new Snowdon summit building's name is "Hafod Eryri", which translates as "Snowdonia summer house". Hafods were buildings on higher ground used by farmers when pasturing cattle during the summer months. The new name was selected by the Snowdonia National Park Authority from suggestions by members of the public. The summit building is expected to take 18 months to build and should be more in keeping with it's mountain environment, than it's predecessor.Snowdon guided walks....

2A very windy summit of Snowdon8th November, 2006 - Blown about on Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa!

Saturday just gone saw our last scheduled ascent of Snowdon for 2006. Congratulations to Keith, James, Lindsey, Sally and Richard who got to the top in some quite wild winds. We had the interesting sight of Britain's highest crane to greet us as we made our way on to the summit. This is part of the demolition crew, which has now taken down the Snowdon summit cafe.

27th September - Welsh 3000s

Congratulations to Matthew "Spider" Webb and his team of 10 from HMS Haslar and further afield, on completing the Welsh 3000s challenge for the Poppy Appeal. See pictures here..

June, Welsh 3000s

Glyder Fach, Welsh 3000sCongratulations to Geoff, Petra, Terry and Thomas upon completion of the Welsh 3000s over last weekend. Friday saw some glorious weather for the ascent of Crib Goch and Snowdon, which continued into Day 2 on the Glyderau. However, summer disappeared on the final day in the Carneddau as poor visibility, low temperatures, strong winds and misbehaving compasses did their best to stop the challengers, but to no avail. See photos here. We still have availability on our August dates.
